Design Research Methodology | Final Compilations & Reflections
Project 1:
At the beginning, I was struggling with what aspect I should study and kind of frustrated as I have never done proper research before on my own except for group work. Furthermore, I am really bad at writing, so this module is quite hard for me to do. However, it is really good when I can learn from this research and figure out how to do it and what to do the next time when I need to do proper research. After the slides and guidelines that were given by our lecturers, I finally had a head start on what topic I should be studying, which is “Influences of Graphic Design on Social Behaviour during pandemic.” This idea came from a recent incident, Covid-19 that happened globally and I think I should study the impact of graphic design on people. As the assignment’s brief mentioned, we need to search for the articles that shall not exceed 5 years long, therefore, it was a really good topic for me to study as it is still happening now and it would be really easy for me to do the next step which is criticizing the 5 articles that I found.
Project 2:
This stage of the whole research was the most difficult to me as I faced my personal issue during this project 2. I would like to take back my words that I mentioned “it was really easy to find articles that are within this 5 years” at project 1’s reflection. This is because I only find a few that are related to my context and most of them are not within 5 years as it was related to other diseases. After that, I realised it was really challenging as I am not only a bad writer and also a worst reader because my English is not that good and this led me to take more time in reading the 5 articles to find out and translate what the articles are about, were they suitable, related or completed? It took me another extended week to finish the work as some personal issue happened, and obviously I didn't do it very well as I have to correct it after the feedback given by Doctor Jinchi stated that my critical review lacks critique and I am just describing what the articles are about.
Project 3:
Project 3 was the phase that I started to adapt where also almost the last phase of the semester. After reading and understanding the slides that were given to the teams, I know what I need to do for this assignment 3. Everything went really well and I got 81 participants to respond to my online survey within 2 days, then I started analyzing all of them. This was my first time creating a google form about surveying and I found it really interesting and know which part of the assignment needs to be improved after comments given by Dr.Jinchi and know that some of my questions could not be asked like how i asked in the google form. However, I could not make changes and only can describe more in the analysis since I already started collecting data.
Final Reflection:
I definitely gained lots of knowledge from this module, it would be one of my highlights of my learning journey in my degree as this is my first proper research paper that I ever did. Assignment 2 was the stage that i have struggle on should i continued studying degree and i almost drop out of school as the some personal issue happening recently but it was all finally overcome at the end and i managed to done all the assignments for all subjects.
I delayed the submission dates for not only this module’s project 2 but other subjects also. Thankfully, all the lecturers are understanding my situation and willing to give me a second chance. Everything went really good after all and i managed to do the amendment for assignment 2 and done all the assignment on time.
