Background Story
The story that I have written below was inspired by a true event from the internet. A guy from China who is homeless and jobless so what he does for living is by selling collected paper boxes or anything that can be recycled to the recycle centre to exchange some cash. What makes him so special is he still managed to take care of as many stray cats as he could from his hard-earned money instead of changing his lifestyle. Therefore, he got famous after his story was shared by numerous people on the internet. I wanted to twist his story into a cat version of “Romeo & Juliet” but with a heart-warming ending.

Act 1
There are two lovely cats who fell madly in love with each other for a long time. On a very normal, beautiful sunny day, a home-raised elegant female cat, Lucy was dozing off at her comfort zone, and a stray/outsider male cat that was raised by a homeless guy, Denca came and found her to hang out with him. So, Lucy sneaked out as she could not let her mother/master know that she was hanging out with a stray cat, no matter how much she was in love with Denca. What Lucy and Denca did for dating is they will go to catch mice, groom each other and rub their bodies up against one another to reinforce their relationship by transferring scents. (maybe i will add a scene where “lady and the tramp” eating spaghetti)

Act 2
However soon, Lucy’s mother found out the truth that Lucy had been sneaking out so repeatedly lately, so her mother took a chance and waited at the entrance that Lucy would pass by to get home. Unfortunately, Lucy’s mother witnessed they were together when Denca was sending Lucy home after their date, then, Lucy ‘s mother found out the truth that’s why Lucy had been disappearing lately, she was very angry and Lucy got grounded by then.

Act 3
After a few days, Denca went to find Lucy for dating but Lucy couldn't go out as her mother installed a glass door in order to keep Denca away. They had a conversation, Lucy told Denca that the reason why they can’t be together was because Denca was too poor to be suitable. They were both depressed and looked at each other through the glass door, Denca understood the situation so he left to his father and asked his father: “are we poor?” and he told Denca: “For me, we are not poor, because I have all of you (cats), now we go sell all this collected paper box and recyclable bottle to buy us a big dinner!” All of the homeless guy’s cats got excited after hearing that they were going to have a nice dinner and of course, Denca let go of it and appreciated what he is having now.

Animation Part

Before I proceeding to after effect, I make sure all the layer are named well and easy for me to read, then, I went to Photoshop to make all the layer into Smart Object so that my graphic will be more clearer:

Then, I went to after effect and start animating it:

Figure 2.2  Cat Sound Effect (04.07.21)

For my motion comic, I did not include any BGM as I couldn't find one that is suitable for it, so I find source on Epidemic Sound and added on it, the file is uploaded on Google Drive.

I  grouped my layer properly by adding them into a new composition and named it. Moreover, I also easy eased all the keyframes.

Figure 2.4 Exporting From Media Encoder (04.07.21)

I prefer to use Adobe Media Encoder to export it rather than After Effect itself as Media Encoder is way faster and easier than it!

Reflection

This project is very fun and exhausting at the same time! As it really took a lots of time to plan it out, but I really satisfied with the result, hehe. When I start doing it, I just can't stop, I scared if I stopped, I will forget every ideas in my mind or any ideas just suddenly pop up and I didn't manage to catch it, so I done it quite faster than other projects. The only thing that I was not satisfied with is I used opacity for most of the transitions and I tried others but I think they were ugly and I can't think of other transitions. Lastly, I hope you enjoy my works!
